Can you bring miniatures (minis) on an Airplane?
is is a question that is surprisingly asked quite a bit. At first one might be wondering why would someone bring Minis on an airplane? That is usually followed up with a wait is there a problem bringing minis on a plane? Considering this is asked enough and the info is distributed all over the internet lets get straight to it.
The answer is yes, you totally can! How you bring them on the plane can be a bigger question. If what you are bringing can be fit in a carry-on I highly recommend doing so. Most of the time these Minis are picked up on the scanners and are searched. To ensure you can explain what it is easiest to just have them on your carry-on bag and when they ask you can show them, and depending on the TSA agent either a look of awe or immediate lost of interest (which is also great!) and you can be on your way to the plane faster. It is also not a requirement, having TSA Precheck generally helps too!
WHAT IF I WANT TO BRING A LOT OF MINIS
If you are going to be partaking in say a tournament or flying to get your big online group together in person or any other reason then a word of caution. There is a chance you may lose some of your pieces due to the TSA search and leaving a note in your checked bag. You will also want to have them packed in a solid yet reachable manner that will better guarantee the success of delivery and return of your minis.
KNOW WHAT YOUR MINIS ARE MADE OF
Another nice thing to have ready is, what your minis are made of, so when you get the response of how these are silver or gold coated you can be quick with your response like these are made from a lead-tin alloy. This shows you have done your homework and know what kind of materials are not allowed on a plane.
